The Graveyard Book: 4/5 ★★★★☆
Neil Gaiman
This book. THIS BOOK. i cri. It's brilliant. I love it. Neil Gaiman is brilliant. I love him. His books are incredible but I think this one is my favourite. I actually read it in 2018 I think, but I listened to the audiobook this month (read by none other than Neil himself) and I was reminded of just what an incredible story and concept this book is/has.
Nobody Owens' family was murdered when he was just a baby. As the sole survivor, "Bod" is raised by an interesting assortment of characters...in a graveyard. Neil Gaiman takes the ideas and premise of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book, and he puts his own brilliant spin on it. Danger and growing and all things spooky, this book is beautiful and its honestly a pretty easy read.
I am usually hesitant to recommend a Neil Gaiman book because while they are all so so so so good, the content have some... adult themes. And I just don't know how people would like that. But The Graveyard Book is for all ages! So I can tell you, with a clear conscience, READ THIS BOOK. I don't think anyone will ever regret it. Gaiman's writing style is unique. If you can, try to listen to the audiobook, because Neil reading his own books is like eating your very favourite dessert. Anyways. I love it.
